Volkswagen Enters the Energy Sector

With the founding of the new Group company Elli Group GmbH, based in Berlin, Germany, the Volkswagen Group is entering the energy sector and pursuing its strategic goal of becoming a leading provider of sustainable mobility.

Thomas Ulbrich, Volkswagen brand Board Member responsible for e-mobility commented: “As one of the world’s largest automakers, Volkswagen is going to force the pace of the urgently needed transport and energy transition to emission-neutral e-mobility. The new company will play its part with energy offerings from renewable sources and smart charging solutions. This way, we are entering a strategically relevant, extremely exciting business area that offers considerable opportunities for strengthening ties with existing customers as well as accessing entirely new customer groups.”

With sustainable products like electricity tariffs, Wallboxes and other intelligent energy management system segments, the Elli ("electric life") division promises to offer customers all-round solutions from a single source and build up a broad portfolio to strengthen the expansion of e-mobility. When Volkswagen enters the market in 2020 with the electric vehicle Volkswagen ID, the company plants to guarantee private and commercial e-mobility customers seamless access to all the products they will need in the future.

Thorsten Nicklaß, designated CEO of Elli, announced that the new Volkswagen Group company will offer green electricity from renewable sources also to customers outside the Group.
